Telescopic Structure

1. Overall Structural Principle

A retractable grandstand adopts a modular stepped telescopic mechanical structure. The front tier is fixed, and rear tiers slide sequentially under the front tier during retraction. When unfolded, each tier stretches step by step to form a complete stepped spectator platform. All modules interlock to guarantee overall stability.

2. Main Component Breakdown

① Load-bearing Frame System (Main Skeleton)

Material: Q235 / Q355 high-strength steel or lightweight aluminum alloy; surface treated with hot-dip galvanizing or electrostatic powder coating for anti-rust.

Structure form: Vertical support frame / cantilever truss frame, assembled by bolts. Consists of upright columns, cross beams, inclined tie rods and connecting brackets.

Function: Bear static load, spectator live load and transverse sway load; realize layered height difference to form stepped viewing platforms.

② Walking & Guiding System

Heavy-duty silent rollers / polyurethane casters installed at the bottom of each frame unit.

Built-in horizontal limiting guide structure, preventing deviation during extension and retraction.

Load balance spring device: wheels bear load when moving; the whole frame lands for full load bearing after unfolding.

③ Drive & Synchronous Transmission System

Three optional driving modes:

Manual type: Hand crank / direct push-pull structure, applied for small-scale stands.

Electric motorized type (most common): Reduction motor + chain synchronous transmission / rack-and-pinion drive. Equipped with encoders to keep left & right sides running synchronously without jamming.

④ Automatic Locking Mechanism

Mechanical self-locking latches fitted on every tier. Automatically locks once fully extended; auto-unlocks during retraction.

Dual safety lock design prevents accidental sliding under load.

⑤ Platform & Seating Assembly

Anti-slip tread planks, riser panels, front nosing.

Folding spectator seats: blow-molded plastic seats or upholstered theater seats. Four-link folding mechanism allows seats to flip flat for compact storage.

⑥ Safety Auxiliary Structure

Side guard railings, end safety barriers.

Anti-pinch buffer devices, travel limit switches, emergency stop protection for electric models.

Optional embedded step lighting.

3. Working Process

Extension: Front tier fixed; each rear tier slides backward in sequence → reach preset position → automatic locking → seats flip upward for use.

Retraction: Unlock all tiers → rear tiers slide forward and nest under the front tier sequentially → seats fold flat → complete compact storage.

4. Structural Classification

Vertical support retractable grandstand: Low cost, widely used in gymnasiums, multi-function halls.

Cantilever retractable grandstand: No vertical support columns in front, cleaner ground space, preferred for theatres and exhibition halls.
